BMW Exhaust Trim – Case Study

In 2011 a major Automotive approached MCT through its UK Tier 1 design house, to investigate the feasibility of large scale production and manufacture of a carbon exhaust component for its full range of vehicles within the global market. The current product was cost prohibitive and had performance
longevity concerns, which prevented this Automotive from achieving its desired aspiration.

MCT took this concept and engineered a solution that addressed every challenge as prescribed by the Automotive`s design house and continuous production of these products has been achieved for over 12 years, achieving quantities to date of nearly 500,000 components with the latest iterations being
introduced in mid-2024.

Project Scope:

  • Real carbon composite component
  • Achieve full environmental performance requirements at elevated temperatures
  • Interface with all design parameters across the entire vehicle range
  • Achieve the highest VQ quality parts standards
  • Achieve the target production costs
  • Achieve production quantities of a minimum of 26,000 components per annum
