Forged Carbon – Case Study

Given the industry interest in “Forged” carbon, with particular regard to the desirable aesthetic appearance, MCT was challenged by a leading UK OEM to explore the feasibility of delivering an affordable, repeatable and risk adverse solution for a forth coming program.

Having identified a couple of the material suppliers, with their support MCT developed a robust material and process that achieved the desired scope. MCT manufactured a varied number of sample components to the existing OEM specifications, covering process, visual and structural requirements, paint ability and critically all on a comparable or improved costing model.

  • Traditional pre-preg production and autoclave processing.
  • Comparable handleability for all aspects of the manufacturing process.
  • Excellent surface finish achieving the highest paint ability for all finishes.
  • Comparable if not improved costings depending on component geometry.
